The residents of Pier 39

I am obsessed with the sea lions at Pier 39. Obsessed. Every time I go into San Francisco, I find myself making my way down through the hoards of tourists to the Fisherman’s Wharf to post myself on the boardwalk and watch these funny creatures for a while.

We recently spent a day in the city, and after walking around the Haight and making our way over to Chinatown for some dim sum, I once again made a trip down to the wharf to watch the sea lions. Apparently, they’ve been living there for years, and don’t appear to be going anywhere any time soon. They remind me of my parents’ labrador retriever — they lie in the sun, scratch themselves, bark at passersby, and move only when there are snacks involved. I don’t blame them though — the accommodations are pretty sweet, and you can’t beat the view.
