What to Pack: Weekend in Charleston

I haven’t been back to the East Coast since we moved west in December, so I’m happy to say that I’ll be heading to Charleston, S.C., this weekend to celebrate the impending wedding of one of my nearest and dearest. The wedding isn’t til May, but a pre-nuptial ladies’ weekend is in order and I’m pumped for some beach time, Chucktown bar-hopping and QT with the bride-to-be. There’s little I love more (or know better) than the Carolina shore in April, so packing for this trip will be a breeze. Going in my bag: several shades of blue, loose knits, summerweight scarves and crisp whites.

Mint Obsession

As evidenced by my previous posts, I’m having a bit of a minty moment (or two) and can’t seem to get enough of this oh-so-lovely color. But who’s to blame me? Clearly my favorite shops and designers agree, as the available tempting options out there are only increasing.

Transitioning

It’s about this time every year that I’m thoroughly and completely tired of all things fall and winter (and no, it’s not like it takes much to get me to that point – but you get the idea). So let’s fast-forward to, say, early March and start transitioning just a bit, shall we?

On the Hunt: Holiday Party Dresses

I know there are about a gazillion features on holiday party dressing out there on the interwebs right now, but I couldn’t resist – party dresses are awfully fun, aren’t they? And let’s be honest – events of all shapes and sizes are plentiful this time of year, and we’re going to need something to wear.

What to Wear: Thanksgiving

One of my favorite days of the year is nearly upon us – a mere six days from now we’ll be celebrating Thanksgiving with the greatest feast of them all, and I for one am. so. pumped. Thanksgiving celebrations vary widely – from the super casual meal that starts with the annual family turkey shoot out back to the swanky city soiree with the most judgy of judgy grandmothers – but across all variations of the annual event, one thing remains constant: intense overconsumption of delicious fare. I take the feasting pretty seriously, and given my commitment to consumption on this most important of holidays, there is one thing that holds the highest priority when considering sartorial choices for the day – elastic waistbands. A somewhat distant second on the priority list is comfortable footwear, since at my family Thanksgiving celebrations at least, there’s a lot of standing around whilst drinking bloody marys. And let’s be honest – 4-inch heels don’t feel so sexy after an enormous meal.

Knit-picking

It hasn’t exactly gotten cold here yet (save a two-day chilly spell a couple weeks ago), but it feels like it ought to be . Don’t get me wrong – I’m all about warm weather and I’ll take it whenever I can get it, but something about warmer temps well into what should be fall makes me nervous that Old Man Winter’s gonna sneak up out of nowhere and slap us with some seriously frigid weeks to come. So in preparation for that sneak attack, some cozy knitwear.

New season staples

Entering a new season can be a bit overwhelming when it comes to style. It’s difficult to know what to get, what not to get, which trends will endure and which will be a flash in the sartorial pan. At the start of a new season I tend to be so excited to change things up that I end up taking a disorganized approach that results in impulsive purchases that I regret later (as well as purchases that I didn’t make and wish I had). Enter a whittled-down list of seasonal staples to serve as a base (and keep my spending in check). What’s on your list?
