Music Festing, Napa Style

Bottlerock1 – San Francisco Style Blogger

I spent the past few days up in the Napa Valley at the inaugural Bottle Rock music festival and I feel a bit like I’ve just returned from some sort of awesome NorCal utopia. The festival was everything I wanted it to be and more, with sets by favorites Best Coast, the Alabama Shakes, the Black Keys, Jackson Browne, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros (and a zillion other badass groups), plus  Napa wine and food, festival fashion, and a whole lotta sunshine. We posted up at the Silverado Resort, which has a serious Caddyshack vibe (in the loveliest of ways, I promise) and were able to spend some time exploring downtown Napa due to the excellent placement of the festival grounds.

All in all, a very successful first year for a festival that I hope becomes an annual tradition.

As a big fan of most things tropical, I made a serious beeline across the store when I spotted this flamingo-printed top in Zara recently. It works pretty perfectly as part of a resort look, but I’ll be just as happy to pair it with jeans and blazers back in San Francisco (where things are a good deal cooler than they were in Palm Springs, the site of these photos). Bonus: The print might be just sunny enough to keep me warm on the especially foggy SF days.

Hill Hiking

Whenever possible, I prefer to walk to get where I’m going; I just generally find it to be the most pleasurable way to get from point A to point B (in most cases). So when I moved to San Francisco, I found that careful planning of all walks was imperative to avoid unexpectedly walking up hills that are basically vertical faces, in both directions. I’ve started figuring out where the real beasts are (and luckily my neighborhood is pretty flat, at least by SF standards), and I’m able to avoid them when I want – but I’ve also learned something else: bigger hills=awesome views. Tradeoffs.

Neutrals

I really love a neutral color palette, but I put on this outfit Sunday morning only to realize that I was completely lacking the requisite St. Patrick’s Day green. Luckily, my mirrored shades came to the rescue and no pinches came my way. Sometimes just a tiny bit of color is all you need, no?

Also: A big congrats to Carly, the winner of the Stella & Dot necklace giveaway! For everyone else, no worries – you can still get your own crescent necklace here for just $39.

Weekend Details

Green Westward Leaning mirrored lenses + Guinness for St. Paddy's Day

New green lenses + Guinness for St. Paddy’s Day

Sunny weekends in the city tend to bring out hoards of runners, bikers, parents with strollers and other sun-seekers, but this weekend brought things to a whole new level. I couldn’t walk half a block without nearly running into a group of green-clad revelers, who were scattered throughout San Francisco’s streets and beyond. Our apartment looks out onto one of the city’s parks, and on Sunday it seemed that there were few patches of grass that weren’t filled with yard games, grills, coolers and whatever else had been brought out of the woodwork for the celebrations.

My St. Patrick’s Day was a bit more low-key, including a beach picnic, a little Guinness and grasshopper cupcakes; I’m a firm believer that minty green desserts are the best kind of desserts.

It may have been lovely and sunny, but I'm pretty sure the bikinis and frolicking in the Pacific were pushing it, ladies

What to Pack: Weekend in Wine Country

One of my absolute favorite destinations for a long weekend away is the Napa Valley, and I’m happy to say that I’m joining a couple of my pals there this weekend for a some wine tasting, sightseeing and seriously good meals. Napa – like the rest of the fine state of California – is pretty laid back and casual when it comes to attire, so comfy chic is the way to go when packing for a few days there. The essentials: a comfortable maxi dress that will take you from the vineyard to the bistro, a blanket for wine and cheese picnicking among the vines, rustic-chic boots and some San Franciscan shades – it is sunny California, after all.

What to Wear: Memorial Day Weekend

It’s finally here – the annual weekend officially ushering in the summer months, and I. am. pumped. Summer is clearly the superior season, and since around Labor Day of last year, I’ve been waiting for this moment. I’m headed back to the beach this weekend, but I’ve put together a collection of pieces that I think will fit perfectly into pretty much any celebration this weekend, be it a backyard barbecue or trip to the coast. WELCOME, SUMMER!!

1. Free People Thrifty Eyes dress – I think this dress will work just as well with a slip under it and a pair of wedges for a summer soiree as it would as a coverup to throw over a bikini after returning from the surf.

2. Bamboula Ltd. Little Market bag – This cross-body bag just screams summer to me with its bright colors and woven material. Bonus: These bags are imported from rural Kenya using fair-trade practices that directly benefit the artisans that make them.

3. Madewell Linerunner tee – I love the lightness of this striped tee, and plan to be in something like this pretty much all summer long.

4. Topshop stripe shorts – These high-waisted beauties are sure to make it into the summer rotation with their updated silhouette and – yes –stripes. I am a sucker.

5. Topshop Aztec triangle bikini – If your summers are anything like mine, you spend a lot of time escaping the heat in various bodies of water and a collection of swimwear is crucial. I love the tribal vibe of this bikini.

6. Westward Leaning Sleeping Beauty sunglasses – I’ve been lusting after a pair of these sunnies ever since I saw them on Kate Bosworth a few months back. Each of Westward Leaning’s designs features a different material at the temple, but every pair – and they’re all unisex – are the same shape and design.

7. Loeffler Randall Valentine wedges – Loeffler Randall can do pretty much no wrong in my book, and these babies are certainly no exception to that rule. Love the added comfort of wedges, but I was pretty much sold at the pop of neon.

8. Wildfox To the Sea sweatshirt – Early in the summer around here, evenings can actually be slightly cool, and this sweatshirt would serve well as something to throw on after the sun goes down by the sea (or the backyard pool, whatever).
